David G. Dick is an Associate Professor of Philosophy and Fellow in the Haskayne School of Business’s Canadian Centre for Advanced Leadership in Business. Formerly the University of Calgary’s Chair in Business Ethics, Dr. Dick teaches courses in business ethics, political philosophy, and the philosophy of money.
In the Calgary business community, he oversees the Integrity Network, a working group of ethics professionals from corporate, academic, and non-profit sectors that meets four times a year to discuss and engage business ethics issues. Under Dr. Dick’s guidance, the Integrity Network has grown to include more than 85 participants from 47 organizations. Frequently invited to comment in the media, Dr. Dick has made multiple appearances on Calgary Talk Radio QR77, Alberta Primetime, and the CBC. Dr. Dick is also a contributor to the Globe and Mail’s “Leadership Lab” column.
Dr. Dick holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Michigan. In 2008, his dissertation was recognized with a Charlotte W. Newcombe Fellowship, the highest honour for doctoral work promising “original and significant study of ethical or religious values.” Dr. Dick’s teaching has been recognized with five teaching awards. In 2007, Dick won an Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor Award at the University of Michigan. In both 2014 and 2015, Dr. Dick was selected by his students to receive a Student’s Union Teaching Excellence Award. In 2014, his teaching was recognized by the Faculty of Arts with their inaugural Emerging Teacher Award. In 2015, Dr. Dick won the first ever McCaig-Killam Teaching Award.
